I was very surprised when found out that creating Propertys of Language artis3letters used old postcard from the early 20th century, and the text is actually in latvian! It's tough handwriting, but I managed to understand that it is a letter from home saying hello my love, we all are well, acacias are blooming.... so romantic!

Good Luck Charms

Lately I feel very lucky to catch magic numbers on treasuries.. So I thought about some luck amulets and charms we are wearing and using everyday.. Some are religious, some fun.. some brings luck because we believe in them or people who gave them to us..

My amulet is beaded pillow from my grandmother and my daughter's birth sign.
What's Yours?

Latvian Bead Artist - Karina Akišina

She is young and fun and her beads are vivid.

Hi, my name is Karina, I live in Riga, the capital of Latvia. Beading is my hobby since summer 2007, before that I didn’t know anything about handmade things. So I’m happy because I’ve found such an excellent way to express myself, to create something and bring some extra joy to my relatives and friends, though basically female relatives and friends Smile

Making jewelry for them lets me to know them better! Also, I began to pay more attention to colors, to study them and their combinations… Actually I just loved colors, I didn’t like earlier – like pink, which has so many beautiful nuances!

I’ve tried several techniques, now mostly interested in seed beads and polymer clay. So there is indefinite number of possibilities, techniques, and methods… to be inspired!!!
You are welcome to see and comment Karin's gallery on flickr

Latvian Wool artist - Rudu

Today something different - wool and bead artist Rudu

A bit about me. I'm rudu or my real name is Kristīne Rublovska. I'm 23 years old and right now my main activity is Gabriel's (my 2 years old son) upbringing . I was born in Talsi - it's small Latvian town on nine hills. Talsi is a place of my heart and inspiration.

Making jewelry is my hobby, but slowly it becomes more and more serious occupation. I like to learn new things and experiment. My favorite source material is wool. I adore needle felting. In this process fantasy and possibilities have no borders. I love colors and I like to play with them.

The main source of my inspiration is nature - flowers, plants, animals, different forms and textures. I'm person of feelings. I like to see, catch, touch, smell, taste and something from all of that to put in my work. I also like to make jewelry from wire and different pearls and stones. Overall also in my daily life I'm trying to create my own rudu world.

My dream is small cute shop with special atmosphere, where people can come and feel like in another reality - away from drabness and routine. Oh yes, I also like to write fairy tales, stories and take a pictures.
Here you can enjoy rudu galerie and her home page (it's in latvian, but worth to look at her wonderful felted animals and earrings )

Latvian Bead Artist - Gunta Sakse

Today I want to introduce you to wonderful artist Gunta (known as kurmiic too :) )
She is florist who lives in a farm and founds time for beading and does it with passion and love.
See what she wants to tell about herself-
My name is Gunta. I'm 30 and I live in small village far from city rush and noise. It's almost in the middle of forest where winters are snowy and road cleaning from snowbanks often takes several days. Lakes and ponds are frozen so we can skate. In springtime cranes are dancing around and foxses hunting for mouse. At summer and fall wood is full of berries and mushrooms, meadows are blooming with flowers and I love to geather herbal tea. Cherries and strawberries are eaten by birds. When fall comes does help geather apples from ground and boars eat potatoes from fields. It is some kind of country exotic which helps me live. I am inspired from nature, fresh ear gives me strength and country rythm brings piece.

I thank God that He gave me possibility to live life like this, lots of time and opportunities to develop my hobbies. One of them is beadweawing. It is kind of art therapy for me, process is important. I create colorful ornaments which maybe are not so typical for latvians. I use lots of seed beads, probably because the result is not fast but you have to work on it some time, fulfilling with my thougts dreams and immagination. I've been working with polymerclay and wire as well. But my favourite materials are all kind of beads. If you are interested in Guntas beaded projects you can look through her gallerie pages!

I've finished and listed my Long Life and Luck Mandala.
This necklace is bead embroidery, created with vibrant red beads and two pentagon shaped Chinese cinnabar beads inscribed with Chinese characters for long life and luck.

At first I very much wanted to participate in EBW team february competition TROPICAL HOLIDAY, but somehow I think this is not the right piece and I'm not ready yet. So this is Good luck for all those wonderful artists who'll take place in competition!
